Luxurious Lucerne

Just returned from a rather exclusive visit to Lucerne, Switzerland. It’s rare that you can call an events centre beautiful… but KKL Luzern really is that. Not only is it situated on the lakefront, but it brings the water indoors with shallow pools throughout the ground floor. Think the architect was initially more focused on outward appearances than practicality as a number of concert-goers – including his own mother-in-law – apparently fell into the water before barriers were put in place. Loved Lucerne’s design property The Hotel, in particular its bedroom ceilings, each of which is taken from a still of different film. Mine was particularly fancy – a couple from The Matador locked in a loving embrace. Nice. I had better luck than an elderly gent in my group though, who took a while to make out that the scene on his ceiling was in fact a gentleman’s rump…
